Description
The Balvenie DoubleWood is a 12 year old single malt whisky which gains it’s distinctive character from being matured in two wood types. Over the period of maturation it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill European oak sherry cask.Tasting Notes: Sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla on the nose. The taste is smooth and mellow with beautifully combined flavours ~ nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry. Long and warming finish.

Silky and downright succulent, this Scotch is made with two types of oak casks-as the DoubleWood name suggests-but it’s really all about the influence of the ex-Sherry cask. Aromas suggest golden raisins and dried apricots. The silky palate starts out moderately smoky, but glides into a richer, honeyed, nutty profile that finishes with cocoa and clove accents.

Balvenie’s classic was first launched in 1993. Aged in bourbon barrels for at least 12 years and finished in European oak sherry casks for9 months, then the individual casks are transferred to large tuns to marry for 3-4 months. Dry on the nose, with pleasantaromas of citrus and a hint of soapiness and waxiness. Full-flavored on the palate with deep notes of chocolate and brown sugar accented by pepper spice.
