Description
The history of the SeRum goes way back to the 19th century, when the Panama Canal was built. At that time, many Cubans and people living in the Caribbean died, due to the harsh working conditions and the outbreak of the disease malaria.
Cuban women added pickled dried fruits and spices to their old Panamanian spirits to make a kind of energy drink to give men strength.
Later, these spirits were also administered for snakebites and malaria, because it was believed to have a healing effect; hence the name ‘SeRum’.
