Lia’s Vineyard is located in the lovely Chehalem Mountain Appellation, next to Olenik Vineyard. Vineyards lower up the hillside in this area of the Chehalem Mountains have marine sedimentary soils, while those higher up have volcanic soils. Lia’s Vineyard is remarkable in that it straddles this transition, with portions planted in sea soils at the bottom and volcanic soils at the top. The vineyard gets a mix of strong exposure on the western face and some tree protection on the southern face, facing mostly west with some areas rolling out to the south and southwest.

We were lucky to obtain two great Pinot Noir clones in 2012: the Pommard clone, planted in 1993, thrives in the volcanic soil, while the Dijon clone thrives in the sandy soil.

The wine’s aromatics are this curious mix of blueberries, a minty herbal note and the rich orange note of a creamsicle. Modest acidity and fine-grained tannins, with flavors of black-and-blue berries, black tea and tangerine slices.
