Description
A fine red that gently caresses the palate from one of Argentina’s oldest wineries, whose ‘no expense spared’ approach to winemaking has resulted in their flagship red being rated over 90/100 by influential critic Robert Parker. The cellar lies in Salta, a region in northwest Argentina with some of the highest vineyards in the world, located at 1,700 metres altitude. While alluding to these dizzying altitudes, Ascención is also the name of the daughter of the Spanish governor who founded Salta. Winemaker Thibaut Delmotte uses meticulous grape selection along with biodynamic viticultural methods and traditional winemaking techniques to produce this pure, barrel aged Malbec. Concentrated yet elegant with supple fruit, it’s ideal with a steak.
