Description
Dark black-purple. Lifted, very perfumed aromas of blackberry, pepper, Ruby Red grapefruit, and cream with subtle stem notes adding interest in the background. On the palate, holy moly! Such incredible texture, such impeccable balance. Plenty of dark berry fruit and Ruby Red grapefruit to complement all the wonderful Santa Lucia Highlands spice. Finishes long and gently tannic. This wine would more than hold its own in a blind tasting of top-flight Côte-Rôties. Drink this impressive cool-climate Syrah from 2024 through 2036. (MRO – 07/15/23)

The last vintage for this cuvée, as the vines were ripped up, the 2021 Syrah Rosella’s Vineyard is an opaque purple with a tinge of red. As close to Northern Rhône style as it gets, it reveals notes of smoked meat, black pepper, lavender, and plum followed by a full-bodied red with loads of graphitic earth. Light on its feet , with a supple texture, its notes of blackberry, fresh herbs, and tea leaf last long on the finish. This beautiful wine will have good longevity over the next 10 or more years.

The 2021 Syrah Rosella’s Vineyard is gorgeous. Red purplish fruit, blood orange, dried flowers and spice are all beautifully lifted. This is one of the most floral, savory vintages of the Rosella’s I can remember tasting. There is an effusive quality to the Rosella’s that is impossible to miss. I love the purity and focus here. Sadly, this is the last vintage of the Carlisle Rosella’s Syrah as vineyard owner Gary Franscioni took out the Syrah in favor of Pinot Noir.

Sleek and rich, this red retains a keen sense of elegance, offering handsomely layered raspberry and boysenberry flavors laced with garrigue and smoked pepper tones while gliding to the rich, structured finish. Drink now through 2032. 362 cases made.
