Description
The top Champagne house of Louis Roederer created their special cuvee called “Cristal” as a commisioned bottling for the Russian Czars who were afraid of being assasinated by an IED inside the bottle so they required that the bubbles be bottled in clear crystal! Eventually the fame and quality of the wine led them to make Cristal available to everyone but the clear bottle remains.
About the Champagne: Cristal is only made in exceptional vintages from reserve wines aged 6 years and then the Champagne is left on the lees an additional 8 years before disgorgement. It really is a monumental wine.
95 rating Decanter
“An open and inviting nose references cream, oatmeal and Amalfi lemon with the slightest edge of smoke. The palate immediately strikes with a mouthwatering lemon ripeness and a juicy, mouthfilling generosity reminiscent of yellow plum. It stays true to the trademark sleekness of Cristal and speaks of the concentration of 2015. Fine mousse accentuates the fullness and roundness of the wine while the long finish hints at chalky depth which, for now, is dominated by ripe stone fruit and more of that textured, rich notion of oatmeal. Definitely a Cristal to enjoy soon.”
