Description
Edmeades was founded by California cardiologist Don Edmeades, who with iconic winemaker Van Williamson ran a string of great vintages of this wine as well as their single vineyard zins that seems to be only available in Cali now. The latitude, altitude and aspect of this Mendocino apellation lend the wine a wider spectrum of flavors than say a Lodi Zin. Lodi makes great old vines zins with great concentraion and ripeness but the Mendocino apellation give it a little briary brambly character. Like some of the leaves and stems of all that blackberry flavor was left in. It has nice hints of baking spice and herbs like sage to complement the hefty black fruit. It also has a little more lift from the slightly cooler climate.
90 rating Wine Enthusiast
“This wine is fresh, concentrated with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, ginger and dried florals. The palate has flavors of boysenberry, blood orange, coriander and dried sage intertwined with orange zest and dark chocolate. It finishes dry. Pair with brisket.” goto producers website
