Description
One of the most captivating, precise and effortlessly elegant rosé Champagnes in the world-this has no peer in terms of quality, period. Forty-eight months on lees; 65% Pinot Noir and 35% Chardonnay-aged completely in barrel for the first time. Pale salmon in the glass; red currants, black cherries and a dust of pepper over pink and red roses fill the nose. Ripe and impressively structured, this rose delivers the perfume and poise of a noble red wine but the liquid grace of the finest Champagnes-incredibly long and persistent in the mouth, with hints of licorice and spiced cherries.

Opulent aromas and flavors of smoky grilled nut and toasted brioche, baked apricot and raspberry fruit, pastry cream and crystallized honey show in this expressive rose Champagne, yet the spine of rapierlike acidity and the satiny mousse are finely integrated, lending an elegance to the full-throttle flavor profile. Disgorged July 2019. Best from 2022 through 2027. 150 cases imported.

Being, as usual, the same base wine as the corresponding (-based) “Tradition” but with the addition of some Ambonnay rouge – and also as usual, tasting very different from that sibling! – Egly’s NV Brut Rose Disg. 2/2013 displays prominent sour cherry with a hint of strawberry, its juicy fresh fruit mingling with leather and smoked meat on the nose as well as the firm palate, and leading to a finish less transparent to nuance, juicy or saliva-inducing than that corresponding “Tradition,” but charming, invigorating, and persistent.
