Description
It has a wonderful, deep, ruby red colour, a wide aromatic range of scents in which delicious vanilla notes, small red fruit, layers of jam and sweet spices combine. The taste appears to have a full aristocratic roundness and softness, with quite elegant, agreeable and lingering flavours.

The 2018 Merlot Montiano opens with earth tones and minerals, animal musk, and crushed stone that give way to a core of blackberries. It’s silky and enveloping yet superbly balanced, drenching the palate in red and blue-toned berries, with violet tinged florals forming toward the close. Streamlined acidity helps to alleviate its grippy tannins, as this tapers off perfumed with a core of long lasting ripe fruit. I don’t see the 2018 as a wine for the ages, but it will find its niche in the medium term while waiting for the big vintages to mature.

A chewy, medium- to full-bodied red, with deep, dark minerally notes of smoke and iron underscoring baked black plum and fig cake fruit flavors. Round and well-knit, with accents of macerated cherry, dried sage and cocoa powder on the finish. Merlot. Drink now through 2028.
