In 1875, Alfredo Francisco Pellas Canessa, a young adventurer from Genoa, Italy, left his family behind to travel to the exotic country of Nicaragua. The perfect location for the distillery was found at the foot of San Cristobal Volcano, the highest and most active volcano in Nicaragua. The fertility of the surrounding lands, the enriched water and the hot volcanic climate proved to be crucial for the unique and smooth taste of the rum.
