Description

In 1975, Gerard Bertrand began his grape harvest at Chateau de Villemajou in the Corbieres, where he discovered his passion for wine. Over the course of twelve years, he honed his skills alongside his father Georges Bertrand until the fourth generation finally carried on the legacy. After the tragic death of his father in 1987, Gerard Bertrand took over the family management of the Domaine de Villemajou and founded the Gerard Bertrand wine company. The Gerard Bertrand Group comprises 16 wine estates and 16 chateaux along the Mediterranean coast of France, covering a total of 850 hectares. Some of the grapes are harvested by hand and matured in 225-liter Bordeaux barrels, while the rest is stored in stainless steel tanks.

Gerard Bertrand Cigalus Blanc is a noble cuvee of Chardonnay, Viognier and Sauvignon, grown on a vineyard that was specially designed for the production of a top wine using biodynamic cultivation. With a high planting density of over 5000 vines per hectare and high trellises to promote photosynthesis and optimal grape ripening, the highest value is placed on quality.

The grapes are harvested by hand, only when each grape variety has reached optimum ripeness, determined by daily tasting of the berries. The grapes are gently pressed pneumatically, with 70% of the juice fermented in oak barrels and 30% in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation ensures a rounded character, while seven to eight months of ageing on the lees enhances the aromas.
