Description
Harlan Estate’s “The Maiden” is an exceptional wine that reflects the estate’s commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Produced in limited quantities, “The Maiden” serves as the second wine of Harlan Estate, showcasing a blend of Bordeaux varietals, primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
This wine is crafted from younger vines and selected lots that don’t make it into the flagship Harlan Estate wine, yet it still embodies the estate’s hallmark elegance and intensity. With rich flavors of dark fruit, spices, and velvety tannins, “The Maiden” offers a glimpse into the exceptional terroir of the estate. It’s a fantastic choice for those looking to enjoy the Harlan experience at a more accessible price point, with the potential for aging beautifully over time.
91 rating The Wine Advocate
“The 1998 Maiden is prodigious. I know it is tempting to pooh-pooh second wines, but this is no afterthought from owner Bill Harlan and the winemaking team of American Bob Levy and Frenchman Michel Rolland. The 1998 Maiden (770 cases) possesses a dense purple color and a knockout nose of cocoa, prunes, blackberries, plums, and cassis. Spicy, with moderate tannin, and a viscosity and richness akin to beef blood, it is a gorgeous, concentrated, thick effort.” Robert M Parker
