Description
Heidsieck & Co Monopole, founded in 1785, is one of the most traditional champagne houses in the world. Since the beginning of the 20th century in particular, the house has been held in high esteem by European royal houses and the Russian Tsar’s court. In 1916, 3,000 bottles of champagne were sent to the Russian royal family in St. Petersburg, but the cargo never reached its destination as the ship “Joenkoeping” was sunk by a German submarine.
It was not until 1998 that divers managed to salvage around 2,400 bottles from the wreck. Heidsieck & Co Monopole’s “Blue Top” is characterized by a fruity taste profile and is based on an assemblage of 70% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Meunier, which gives it its unique balance and richness.
