Description
The Paul Kerschbaum winery is one of the leading wineries in Austria. It is located in the Blaufraenkisch region of Horitschon in Burgenland. The term “Blaufraenkischland” refers to a wine-growing region in central Burgenland, where the Blaufraenkisch grape variety is mainly cultivated. Paul Kerschbaum’s aim is to produce powerful, long-lasting wines with a woody touch. In 2011, Paul Kerschbaum placed the production of the wines in the hands of his son Michael.
Kerschbaum Opera is a carefully composed cuvee consisting of 60% Blaufraenkisch and 40% Merlot. The hand-picked grapes are gently fermented spontaneously on the skins for 21 days, which gives the wine its intense structure. It then matures for 18 months in new 500-liter oak barrels, where it develops its multi-layered aromas. After ageing, the red wine is gently bottled and sealed with a natural cork.
