Scents of peonies, red berries, cinnamon and orange rind introduce the 2020 Santenay 1er Cru Maladière (Domaine Prieur-Brunet), a medium to full-bodied, lively wine framed by powdery, youthfully chewy tannins and concluding with creditable length. This saw some whole bunch this year.

The 2020 Santenay La Maladiere ler Cru offers darker fruit than the Clos des Gatsulards, more floral, quite Vosne-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, fleshy and ripe that it just attenuates a little towards the finish. But there is decent freshness here.

Lean and sinewy, offering cherry, cranberry, earth and resinous flavors. Starts out with dusty tannins, gaining equilibrium with air. This is one to decant. Drink now through 2027. 832 cases made, 416 cases imported.
