Description
Pure Kentucky comes from the willet’s stable of fine whiskies. It’s usually not as recognized as Noah’s Mill (my favorite) or Rowan’s Creek but it is every bit as good. It is aged “about” 12 years. I can say it was originally bottled as a 12, now has no age statement (except that it says XO) so it is probably mostly 5-10 year old stock with some 12 year old in the blend. It is bottled at 107 proof. It is a really fine dram. good spice notes with some nice creamy texture.
Here’s the Pure Kentucky mash bill. This is definitely a Hight Rye Bourbon so except firmer palate and lots of baking spices.
85% of the blend is: 72% Corn 13% Rye 15% Barley
15% of the blend is: 52% Corn 38% Rye 10% Barley
Willet’s distillery tasting notes Pure Kentucky XO Straight Bourbon: “Spicy rye notes on this Bourbon Whiskey tickling the nose, accompanied by rich leather notes. That wonderful vanilla (Big Vanilla!), followed by woods and farther down the road a little saltiness.” -Willett Dist
