Description
The Ron Matusalem brand originated in Santiago de Cuba, where it was founded in 1872 by brothers Benjamin and Eduardo Camp, together with their partner Evaristo Alvarez. The name “Matusalem” comes from the biblical figure Methuselah, who is said to have lived to be 969 years old, and symbolizes the long maturation process and quality of the rum. Over the years, Ron Matusalem has faced various challenges, including changes in ownership and production locations due to political and economic factors. After the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the brand changed hands and production was moved to the Dominican Republic, where it continues to flourish.
A very high-quality and extremely popular spirit is the Matusalem Rum Solera 7. As the name suggests, this rum is produced using the well-known solera process. This involves stacking several barrels on top of each other. The oldest row of barrels, which is located at the bottom, is called “Solera” in technical terminology. The rum is not stored in just any barrels, but in selected barrels made of American oak.
