Description
Rated 91 points James Suckling on the 2020 vintage Calatayud, Spain – “Plums, wild raspberries, grilled mushrooms, sage, potpourri and spice box on the nose. Full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Plush, textured and fragrant. Balanced
The variety is the main protagonist of San Gregorio Garbo 2020, a young 100% Garnacha wine, made from high altitude vineyards. The nose offers notes of red fruits, such as strawberries, but also floral notes, close to violet and jasmine. In the mouth it is sweet.
The intention of the San Gregorio winery with this wine is to respect the aromas and flavors of the Grenache, which is grown in high altitude vineyards, located above 600 meters, near the Sierra de Armantes, in the D.O. Calatayud. The San Gregorio winery was founded in 1965 in Cervera de Calatayud by 30 winegrowers who were passionate about local varieties, but who have also begun to set their sights on others from France. The result is wines in which the grape expresses itself freely and that have managed to adapt to the new tastes of consumers without losing their identity.
San Gregorio Garbo 2020 (D.O. Calatayud) will be combined with meat dishes such as stone-grilled beef steak.
