Description
Similar to sherry, port wine may also only be produced in a specific area. Traditionally in the north of Portugal, in the Alto Duoro area, the vines are cultivated on steep terraces.
The slate soil protects the vines from the scorching sun during the day and becomes a natural sun reservoir during the cool nights. For harvesting, the grapes are selected by hand, fermented on the skins and vinified to make the famous port wine.
