Description
The house was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot. Since the creation of the brand Veuve Clicquot, the house has specialized in the production of champagne, based on the variety Pinot Noir.
Only two years after the marriage of Francois Clicquot and Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, her husband died. Barbe-Nicole Clicquot then took over her late husband’s business in 1810.
In 1986, Veuve Clicquot merged with Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessey.
Today, Jacques Peters is the head winemaker of Veuve Clicquot.
The company’s motto then, as now, was ‘Only one quality – the finest’.
The blend is 45% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier and 15% Chardonnay, identical to Veuve Cliquot Rich.
The background concept of this “Rich” range is that champagne may also be drunk on ice, but only if it has a sweet note.
