Description

The Winkler-Hermaden winery is located on the Kapfensteiner Kogel, an extinct volcano, in southeastern Styria. The winery covers a total of 40 hectares of vineyards.

After numerous well-known white grape varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer and Pinot Blanc, the most famous red wine variety, the Blauer Zweigelt, can also be found.

Not only the wine grows in Kapfenstein. The oaks for the small wooden barrels also grow on the same soils, in the same climate and on the same Kapfensteiner Kogel.

This wine is dedicated to the field marshal lieutenant Arthur Winkler. In 1917, he fought in Hermaden in Upper Italy during the First World War. To honor his service, he was granted the peerage by Emperor Charles I. Arthur Winkler chose “Winkler von Hermaden” to commemorate the fighting in Hermaden.
