Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Le Lion storms out of the glass with bold notes of baked black plums, blackberry pie and boysenberries, plus suggestions of dried Provence herbs, pencil shavings and unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers taut, muscular black fruits with a firm frame of grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and earthy.

The 2020 Le Lion La Fleur de Boijard is a soft, easygoing wine to drink now and over the next few years. Dark cherry, dried herbs, mocha, dried herbs and crushed flowers open nicely in this attractive, soft Lalande-de-Pomerol. The 50% Cabernet Franc adds a light vegetal character that is not too intrusive, but that is present.
