“Eagle Rare, first introduced in 1975 as a luxury bourbon, is now an affordable, highly sought-after whiskey. Originally produced by Seagram and later acquired by Sazerac in the ’80s, it is now made by Buffalo Trace. Despite its age, Eagle Rare 10-year-old is priced around $40, making it scarce due to high demand.
How Eagle Rare 10-Year-Old Is Made
Eagle Rare 10 uses Buffalo Trace’s mashbill #1, a low-rye blend with under 10% rye. Once bottled as a single barrel, it now comes from an automated bottling line, blending some barrel residue. Initially bottled at 101 proof, it is now 90 proof (45% ABV).
Tasting Notes
The nose is sweet and complex, with nougat, honeycomb, oak, graham cracker, and citrus peel. The taste is light-bodied, with orange peel and subtle baking spices. The finish is sweet, with vanilla, honey, and a hint of earthiness.” From The Whiskey Advocate
