Description
The Frescobaldis are an important Florentine family that has been based in Tuscany for over 1000 years and is dedicated to the production of outstanding Tuscan wines. Their influence grew considerably during the period of the Florentine Republic, when banking flourished in the city and the family became involved in many areas. They were instrumental in the construction of important buildings, including the Santa Trinita Bridge and the Basilica of Santo Spirito.
Frescobaldi, located in the Montalcino region, southwest of the medieval town, produces some of the finest Italian wines. These wines are made from the Merlot and Sangiovese grape varieties. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with a 10-day fermentation followed by a 20-day maceration on the skins. The wines then undergo malolactic fermentation and mature for 12 months in barriques to develop their unique character.
